About Me

My earliest memory of baking pastries was in 4th grade, back in 1993. I was ten years old, considerably older than the baking prodigies of today. My stepbrother (older by 9 years) had started a little business with his then-girlfriend, and as luck would have it, he let me tag along to "help".

They had acquired a copy of Mrs.Field's cookbook and used it as a starting point to sell baked goods. That was my very first lesson in baking cookies as well as costing (which I had to re-learn in recent years). I assisted them in baking and sold boxes on end to classmates and friends - they were a hit! I had a small commission - which wasn't bad considering how many boxes I sold back then - but I immediately realized that my happiness didn't come from the extra money that I was making. It helped, of course, but it gave me more pride and joy knowing I helped create these wonderful confections that made so many people happy. And so my baking adventure began.

My Mom was very supportive of my new found interest - we lived near a baking supply store so she bought me whatever supplies I needed and allowed me to mess around in the kitchen. My Step-Grandmother had tons of cooking and baking experience under her belt, and was kind enough to lend me one of her prize cookbooks, Betty Crocker's New Picture Cookbook.

It had everything - very 60's, complete with how-to's on table setting and planning meals. It was like a manual for the ideal 60's homemaker.  Sadly, as of this writing, this precious cookbook is still nowhere to be found. Between my on-again off-again affair with baking and the number of times we moved to a new home, it just got lost along the way.

Throughout the years, I dabbled in baking - mostly cookies and cakes, and I also tried to cook once in a while (which I have less luck with). Baking also got me through tougher times (when I needed some extra cash) but for the most part I bake for leisure - mine and others. And yes, I still accept orders when time permits it. :)

Fast forward to 2012. I'm married, with two beautiful little boys. I currently work as a consultant for an IT Firm, which makes my schedule flexible somewhat. I stopped baking for a few years since I didn't have an oven when I moved out and got married.

I finally got one Christmas 2012, a gift for myself and others that sample my little experiments.
